La chapelle a été construite en 1600 sur le site d'un ermitage.
Selon la légende , il a été construit sur une source qui alimentait la citerne du château. Cette citerne existe toujours et est visible.
La chapelle est située dans un cadre exceptionnel en bordure de l'ancienne route liégeoise.
Il contenait la statue de Notre-Dame des Douleurs et la statue de Sainte Marguerite. Malheureusement ces photos ont été volées en décembre 1973 .
Sainte Marguerite était invoquée par les femmes enceintes "pour une naissance heureuse".
