Vous parcourez un tronçon du Guldenspoorpad, une ancienne voie ferrée datant de 1869 qui sert aujourd'hui de piste cyclable et fait partie de l'autoroute cyclable F45 entre Gand et Courtrai. La ligne 83 était une ligne de chemin de fer belge reliant Courtrai à Avelgem et Ronse. Elle mesurait 28,7 km de long.
Elle est restée en activité jusqu'en 1991, lorsque des trains de marchandises circulaient encore entre Courtrai et l'usine Bekaert à Zwevegem.
