Chapelle des Sept Douleurs : Halte millénaire pour la réflexion
Au croisement de la Kapellekensbaan et de la Dendermondsesteenweg, nous arrivons à l'une des sept chapelles historiques en l'honneur des Sept Douleurs de Marie.
Selon la tradition, elle existe depuis le 16ème siècle. La chapelle actuelle, dédiée à “La descente de croix”, porte l'année 1776 et a été restaurée en 1806, 1958 et 1989.
La chapelle à nef unique est construite en briques rouge orangé avec un toit à deux pentes en ardoise et est flanquée de poteaux en pierre bleue. La porte à arc brisé, encadrée de briques décoratives, porte l'inscription :
“O.L.V. Ter Nood – Ne mettez ici aucun pied, ou dites un Je vous salue Marie.”
À l'intérieur : une voûte peinte en bleu avec des étoiles dorées, un lambris en bois et une moderne Pietà de Staf Peleman remplaçant la statue volée du 17ème siècle.
