Quelques jours après la décision d'utiliser le village de Brûly-de-Pesche comme quartier général d'Hitler, il fut décidé d'expulser complètement la population de la région. Les 27 et 28 mai 1940, 28 villages autour du « Wolfsravijn » furent évacués. Les habitants doivent trouver refuge à Philippevile et Walcourt, sans savoir pourquoi ils sont expulsés de chez eux. Ils ne peuvent pas rentrer chez eux avant fin juin, voire début juillet. Au même moment, quatre-vingts personnes sont prises en otage et enfermées à la prison de Dinant.
