Enkele dagen na de beslissing om het dorp Brûly-de-Pesche als hoofdkwartier van Hitler te gebruiken, wordt beslist om de bevolking volledig uit de streek te verdrijven. Op 27 en 28 mei 1940 worden 28 dorpen rond het 'Wolfsravijn' geëvacueerd. De inwoners moeten onderdak vinden in Philippevile en Walcourt, zonder te weten waarom ze uit hun huizen worden gezet. Ze kunnen niet vóór eind júni en zelfs begin juli naar huis terugkeren. Tegelijkertijd worden tachtig personen gegijzeld en opgesloten in de gevangenis van Dinant.
