Balterswil est une localité et une ancienne commune suisse du canton de Thurgovie. La commune comprenait également les villages de Lützelmurg, Zielwies, Ifwil et Lochwies.
Balterswil appartenait à la fin du Moyen Âge aux seigneurs de Bichelsee. En 1419, il a été donné par les Landenberger à l’abbaye de Fischingen. Jusqu’en 1798, il faisait partie de l’ancienne cour de Fischinger. En 1521, certains droits d’utilisation des terres agricoles ont été étendus à Ifwil, suivis en 1651 par des avantages civils limités aux fermes existantes. En 1884, un pyromane a provoqué un grand incendie dans le village.
