Le château de Nideggen est situé au sommet d'un rocher. La première pierre du château a été posée en 1177. En 1979, le musée du château a ouvert ses portes dans la tour résidentielle du complexe.
Les environs de Nideggen comptent de nombreuses roches en grès coloré, qui offrent souvent de magnifiques vues sur les alentours de Nideggen et la vallée de la Roer.
