Breyell est un quartier de Nettetal. Avant 1970, le lieu était une commune indépendante avec Schaag. L'ancien établissement celte (celtique : Britogilum pour "eau lumineuse") est mentionné pour la première fois par écrit au 12ème siècle.
Breyell était au Moyen Âge un lieu de commerce important. Cela était dû à la situation favorable du lieu par rapport à Cologne - 's-Hertogenbosch, Aix-la-Chapelle - Nimègue. De plus, le lieu n'était pas loin d'anciens dépôts le long de la Meuse (Ports de Tegelen/Steyl et Venlo). Au 16ème siècle, les habitants de Breyell vivaient à la fois du commerce, de l'agriculture et du transport de marchandises.
