La Lenne est le plus long affluent de la Ruhr. La rivière prend sa source au sommet du Kahler Asten près de Winterberg dans le Sauerland, à une hauteur de 819 mètres. La Lenne s'écoule sur 128 km. À Hagen, dans la Ruhr. Avec un débit moyen de 25 mètres cubes par seconde, c'est le plus grand affluent de la Ruhr. Après la confluence, le débit est presque doublé.
