Le château de Horneburg est une ancienne résidence noble à Datteln. Jusqu'en 1418, il était le siège des seigneurs d'Oer.
La première mention écrite de la Horneburg remonte à 1220 dans le Grand registre de la domanialité du comte Friedrich von Isenberg-Altena. Il y est mentionné que Horneburch appartenait à la cour supérieure de Richrode. Dans un contrat de paix entre l'archevêque de Cologne Friedrich III. de Saarwerden et le comte Engelbert IV. de la Mark du 29 octobre 1384, la Horneburg a été mentionnée dans le Vest Recklinghausen.
