Le « pont penché » menait l’ancien tracé du canal Dortmund-Ems sur l’Oststraße, l’ancienne B 235, à Olfen. Aujourd’hui, l’abreuvoir du pont n’est plus rempli d’eau et sert de piste cyclable et de randonnée.
Le pont est l’un des quatre ponts historiques de l’Ancien Voyage du canal Dortmund-Ems entre Datteln et Olfen. Plus au sud, la DEK traverse le Pelkumer Weg et la Lippe avec le pont du canal Alte fahrt. Plus au nord, un pont-canal traverse la Stever.
