La tour Kolk se dresse sur la colline Kolkturmberg qui porte son nom. L'édifice de 15,5 mètres de haut a été construit en 1976 et restauré en 1997. Sa situation exposée permet d'avoir une vue depuis son sommet sur la ville de Halle et jusqu'au Saalekreis et au pays de Mansfeld.
La tour Kolk est déjà la troisième tour d'observation sur le Kolkturmberg ou dans ses environs immédiats. En 1880, la société de Kolk de Halle a construit une structure en bois qui a été démolie en 1921 après avoir subi de graves dommages causés par le vandalisme. Dans les années 1930, une deuxième tour en bois a été édifiée sur la proche montagne noire. Après environ 30 ans de service, celle-ci a également dû être démolie en raison de sa vétusté. À l'emplacement de la première tour, la société de réparation de la Reichsbahn municipale a finalement érigé la structure encore existante aujourd'hui.
