L'usine de Siemens AG à Braunschweig remonte à l'établissement de construction de signaux ferroviaires Max Jüdel & Co, fondée en 1873. C'est le plus grand site au monde pour l'automatisation ferroviaire et fait partie de la division Siemens Mobility de Siemens AG. L'installation est située sur la Ackerstraße, à l'arrière de la gare principale dans le district de Viewegs Garten-Bebelhof.
Le chemin de fer a une longue tradition à Braunschweig, depuis l'ouverture le 1er décembre 1838 de la Herzoglich Braunschweigische Staatseisenbahn, la première ligne de chemin de fer d'État en Allemagne, entre Braunschweig et Wolfenbüttel.
