La gare de Köln West est située à la périphérie nord-ouest du centre-ville de Cologne, dans le quartier de Neustadt-Nord, sur la Venloer Straße. La gare est une halte du système de transport local et se trouve sur le cercle ferroviaire de Cologne. La gare dispose de deux voies de quai sur un quai central de 210 mètres de long et de huit voies sans quai, utilisées pour le trafic de fret. La façade de l'ancien bâtiment de réception est protégée par un monument historique.
