La Mühle de Horst est aujourd'hui une centrale hydroélectrique sur la Ruhr dans le quartier Horst d'Essen. Elle fait partie de la Route de la culture industrielle.
Environ 300 mètres en amont de la centrale actuelle se trouvait un moulin qui a été mentionné pour la première fois par écrit en 1319. Il appartenait aux seigneurs de Horst. Ceux-ci possédaient des terres de la Meuse jusqu'au Sauerland. L'ingénieur Franz Dinnendahl et son frère Johann sont nés en tant que fils du meunier de la Mühle de Horst. Aujourd'hui, une plaque commémorative rappelle ce pionnier industriel du secteur minier. Le moulin a été repris en 1840 par l'industriel d'Essen Friedrich Ludwig Niemann, qui fit construire près de là une villa en tant que résidence.
