Le lac de Uettelsheim se trouve dans le quartier de Baerl, à Duisbourg, sur la rive gauche du Rhin, et est une zone de loisirs. À l'est, il borde Homberg, à l'ouest, la ville de Moers, et au sud, il est adjacent à Hochheide.
Suite à l'extraction de gravier, une surface aquatique de 23 hectares a été créée, dont les environs ont été aménagés de 1969 à 1992. Les lignes de rivage ont été aménagées, des chemins et un paysage de parc ont été créés, ainsi que des zones de refuge pour la flore et la faune.
