L'aéroport Otto-Lilienthal de Berlin-Tegel , ouvert en 1948, se situe au nord-ouest du centre de Berlin dans l'arrondissement de Reinickendorf. C'est le plus important des deux aéroports berlinois encore en service. La fermeture de l'aéroport est prévue au moment de l'ouverture d'un nouveau terminal à l'aéroport de Schönefeld, qui prendra le nom d'aéroport international de Berlin-Brandenburg.
Pendant le blocus de Berlin, les forces françaises en Allemagne y construisent en seulement trois mois de travaux, la plus grande piste d'Europe . Ainsi, le premier avion du pont aérien peut atterrir le 5 novembre 1948, un mois avant son ouverture officielle.
