La pyramide fait partie d’un complexe global composé du château de Garzau et de son parc paysager. Friedrich Wilhelm Carl Count von Schmettau a créé le parc en 1779. La pyramide a été construite en 1784 et devait servir de mausolée pour le comte. Cependant, il vendit le domaine en 1802. En 1911, la maison Herrenhaus Garzau a brûlé. Lors de la reconstruction du château, la pyramide est devenue une ruine. En raison de son apparence, le bâtiment a été appelé le « Ritterburg ». Il a été rénové dans les années 2000 à 2010. L’intérieur est maintenant en grande partie dans son état d’origine.
