L’Altenberger Pinge est un Pinge situé à Altenberg, dans les monts Métallifères de l’Est, formé par l’exploitation minière de Zinnstein. La carrière principale a eu lieu en 1620. Au début du 19ème siècle, le Pinge n’avait qu’une superficie d’environ 2,5 hectares. Surtout à partir de 1976 environ, elle a été considérablement agrandie par l’exploitation intensive du minerai. Aujourd’hui, il a un diamètre moyen de 400 m, une profondeur d’environ 130 m et une superficie d’environ 12 hectares.
Le Pinge et certaines installations minières associées font partie de la région minière des Monts Métallifères, classée au patrimoine mondial de l’UNESCO. En 2006, il a été nommé l’un des 77 géotopes nationaux les plus importants.
