La localité est surtout connue grâce à son école Waldorf Evinghausen, qui a été fondée en 1970 à partir de l'ancienne école du village et qui se compose d'une crèche, d'une école, d'une librairie et du Johanneshof en tant qu'établissement de pédagogie curative.
Le hameau d'Uptrup, avec 42 habitants, fait partie d'Evinghausen et est situé au milieu d'une clairière du parc naturel du Nord de la chaîne des Teutoburg et des montagnes Wiehen, à une altitude d'environ 250 mètres au-dessus du niveau de la mer.
