Montgat[1] est une commune et une localité espagnole de la province de Barcelone, en Catalogne. Appartenant à la comarca d'El Maresme, elle compte une population de 12 260 habitants.
Il existe diverses théories sur l'origine de son nom, l'une d'elles étant que l'origine est ibère, de "Mons-Cot", qui signifie "Mont de Pierre". Dans un document du monastère de Sant Pere de les Puelles, apparaît le nom "Monte Chato".
