Joensuu est une ville située dans l'est de la Finlande, dans la province de la Finlande orientale chef-lieu de la région de Carélie du Nord.La ville est fondée en 1848 et compte environ 75 000 habitants,, 115 000 dans la région économique.Cité étudiante, elle est l'hôte de plus de 6 000 étudiants suivant des cours à l'université de l'Est de la Finlande et de plus de 3 500 autres étudiant à l'université des sciences appliquées de Carélie du Nord.
