Saint-Martial est une commune française, géographiquement installée au pied du Massif du Mézenc, administrativement située dans le département de l'Ardèche en région Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, et qui était autrefois rattachée à l'ancienne province du Vivarais.Le territoire de la commune bénéficie, à proximité du bourg central, de la présence d'un lac artificiel de treize hectares créé dans les années 1970 à partir d’une résurgence naturelle, ainsi qu'une importante surface forestière de moyenne montagne essentiellement composée de hêtres, de sapins de Douglas et d'épicéas.
