Le village s'étire en longueur le long de la route départementale 35 menant de Saint-Dié-des-Vosges à Rambervillers par le col du Haut du Bois . Tracée perpendiculairement, la départementale 7 mène de La Bourgonce à Saint-Remy. La Valdange arrose le centre dans le sens sud-nord. Le relief s'élève vers l'ouest, dans la forêt domaniale du Ban d'Étival, culminant à 628 mètres. Plusieurs petits ruisseaux s'en échappent, des « gouttes » selon l'appellation locale, et rejoignent la Valdange.
