LA BATTERIE DE LEFFRINCKOUCKE
Ce bâtiment militaire, dont les premiers éléments datent de 1778, fut fortifié en 1879 par la Marine. Ouvrage du système Séré de Rivières, entièrement réalisée en briques jaunes, la batterie de Leffrinckoucke, encore appelée batterie de l'Est ou de Zuydcoote, avait en charge la défense de la passe maritime. Pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, l'occupant allemand renforça la position et l'intégra dans le mur de l'Atlantique.
