Angoulême est une commune française, préfecture du département de la Charente, en région Nouvelle-Aquitaine.Établie sur un éperon dominant un méandre de la Charente et les confluents de celle-ci avec la Touvre et l'Anguienne, la ville est surnommée le balcon du Sud-Ouest. La commune compte moins de 50 000 habitants , mais elle est le centre d'une agglomération rassemblant près de 110 000 habitants au sein d'une conurbation urbaine qui s'étend sur une quinzaine de kilomètres d'est en ouest. Angoulême fait aussi partie d'une communauté d'agglomération appelée GrandAngoulême comportant plus de 140 000 habitants en 2017.
