Champtel signifie champ du tilleul. Place publique au centre ville de La Bresse. Un tilleul abritait jadis un banc de pierre où était rendue la justice. La fontaine en granit sur cette place est dédiée à Joseph Remy, Bressaud qui a inventé la reproduction artificielle des truites au XIXe siècle.
