L'observatoire de Mérelle bénéficie d'une vue panoramique à 360 degrés.
Les scouts, lors d’une randonnée effectuée sur les hauteurs de Gérardmer en juillet 1964, se sont retrouvés sur les hauteurs du site, dominant ainsi le lac gérômois.
Un projet est alors né : la construction de ce superbe mirador en bois comptant 85 marches en colimaçon et offrant une vue spectaculaire avec, en premier plan, le lac de Gérardmer avec, en fond, le domaine de ski alpin Gérardmer Stations ainsi que la Route des Crêtes.
