Dès la deuxième moitié du XIXème siècle, des cabanes de marins y ont été implantées. Au fil des années, le port a subi plusieurs transformations, notamment en 1959 avec la création d'un terre-plein central accueillant des établissements ostréicoles. En 1984-1985, le port de la Hume est devenu un véritable port de plaisance, offrant aujourd'hui une capacité d'accueil de 450 bateaux sur pontons, ainsi qu'un espace visiteurs pour les escales et des wc sur place.
Il offre également une belle et grande plage bordée de tamaris, propice aux jeux et à la détente.
