En 1433, la source coulant aux pieds de la tour Notre-Dame aurait instantanément rempli le fossé qui était à sec, repoussant ainsi un assaut des troupes de Robert de Sarrbrück, seigneur de Commercy.
Les Linéens venaient prendre l’eau de cette source qui guérissait les maladies bénignes de l’œil (orgelet). La chapelle néo-gothique qui abrite la statue du Moyen Âge a été édifiée en 1902.
