In 1433, the spring flowing at the foot of the Notre-Dame tower is said to have instantly filled the dry moat, repelling an assault by the troops of Robert de Sarrbrück, Lord of Commercy.
Linéens came to drink the water from this spring, which cured minor eye diseases such as styes. The neo-Gothic chapel housing the medieval statue was built in 1902.
