La Gascogne est une région culturelle et une ancienne province située sur le territoire actuel des départements français des Landes, du Gers, des Hautes-Pyrénées et, pour partie, d'autres départements des régions de Nouvelle-Aquitaine et d'Occitanie, ainsi que la comarque du Val d'Aran, au Nord de la communauté autonome de Catalogne . Successivement appelée Aquitaine, Novempopulanie, Vasconie puis Gascogne, elle a disparu en tant qu'entité politique propre en 1063 lors du rattachement au duché d'Aquitaine ; toutefois le nom de Gascogne est resté usité jusqu'à la Révolution française. Région naturelle de France localisée entre océan Atlantique, Garonne et Pyrénées, elle se distingue par son identité culturelle fondée sur l'évolution historique de peuples aquitains de langue protobasque vers un peuple gascon caractérisé par une langue romane, occitano-romane ou « aquitano-romane » aux fortes spécificités. Elle constitue l'aire linguistique du gascon.
