L'ancienne abbaye domine Longeville depuis le 6ème siècle. La ville s'est développée autour de ces bâtiments monastiques, tout comme de nombreux villages aux alentours. L'édifice possède un passé mouvementé avec des attaques, pillages, restaurations, démolitions... pour accueillir aujourd'hui dans ses murs les patients d'une maison de repos et de convalescence. Des éléments rappellent l'origine de l'enceinte monastique : les grands porches d'entrée, pièces voûtées à arcatures, la tour nord, chapelle, parc, mobilier...
