Château d'eau construit en 1788 (date mentionnée), à la fin du XVIIIe siècle (an IV) sur le mur de la forteresse surmonté d'un bâtiment servant de bureau à l'ingénieur en chef.
La Fontaine Louis XVI est aussi appelée Fontaine de la Chefferie.
La salle des machines fut ultérieurement transformée en salles communes. Entre 1844 et 1865, un bâtiment similaire fut construit de l'autre côté de l'escalier, avec des écuries, un hangar dans le talus et un bureau sur le talus. Les bâtiments du talus furent endommagés pendant la guerre de 1939-1945. Les vestiges furent détruits en 1958. Décoré par le sculpteur Antoine Harrewyn, dit Beau Soleil.
