Watertoren gebouwd in 1788 (datum vermeld), aan het einde van de 18e eeuw (jaar IV) op de vestingmuur bekroond door een gebouw dat werd gebruikt als kantoor voor de hoofdingenieur.
Fontaine Louis XVI wordt ook wel Fontaine de la Chefferie genoemd.
De machinekamer werd later omgebouwd tot gemeenschappelijke ruimtes. Tussen 1844 en 1865 werd een soortgelijk gebouw aan de andere kant van de trap gebouwd, met stallen, een loods in de wal en een kantoor op de wal. De gebouwen op de wal werden beschadigd tijdens de oorlog van 1939-1945. De overblijfselen werden in 1958 vernietigd. Gedecoreerd door de beeldhouwer Antoine Harrewyn, bekend als Beau Soleil.
