Ubley est un petit village et une paroisse civile dans la vallée de Chew à Bath et North East Somerset, à environ 9 miles au sud de Bristol. Il est situé juste au sud-est du lac Blagdon, juste à côté de l'A368 entre Compton Martin et Blagdon.
Ubley a été mentionné dans le Domesday Book de 1086 sous le nom de Tumbeli, signifiant 'Le pré vallonné' dérivé de l'ancien anglais tumb et leah. Une autre explication est qu'il provient de la clairière d'Ubba dans la forêt. Une autre explication du nom est qu'à l'époque romaine, lorsque la ville romaine de Charterhouse produisait du plomb et de l'argent, elle était connue sous le nom de Veb, et comme V et U sont interchangeables en latin, Ubley dérive de Veb-ley, et était à l'origine un établissement où vivaient des mineurs de plomb romano-britanniques.
