Glencoe, sur la rive du Loch Leven, connaît maintenant une existence paisible. Mais il n'en fut pas toujours ainsi. Durant l'hiver de l'année 1692, Glencoe fut le théâtre d'une véritable boucherie. Assoiffés de sang, des membres du clan Campbell massacrèrent tous les hommes du clan MacDonald pour les punir de la timidité de leur serment envers le roi Guillaume III. Ce massacre est commémoré dans le village par une croix celtique.
