Glencoe, on the shores of Loch Leven, now leads a peaceful existence. But it was not always so. During the winter of 1692, Glencoe was the scene of a true slaughter. Thirsty for blood, members of the Campbell clan massacred all the men of the MacDonald clan to punish them for the timidity of their oath to King William III. This massacre is commemorated in the village by a Celtic cross.
