Pythagore, mathématicien et philosophe, est né à Pythagoreio en 580 av. J.-C. Vous pouvez voir la statue de Pythagore dans le port de Pythagoreio. Pythagore est surtout connu pour le théorème de Pythagore, qui porte son nom, et il est également connu comme "le père des nombres". Pythagoreio était auparavant connu sous le nom de Tigani. La ville a été renommée en 1955 pour honorer le mathématicien et philosophe local Pythagore.
