Une histoire particulière sur l'église raconte que lors d'une attaque de pirates au Moyen Âge, les religieuses vivant dans le couvent ont dû fuir. Une religieuse est restée en arrière et a prié la Vierge Marie de la sauver. À ce moment-là, la roche sur laquelle se trouve le couvent s'est fissurée en deux, faisant tomber les pirates à la mer. Cela explique, selon la tradition locale, pourquoi l'église se trouve sur une sorte de petite île séparée du continent par une étroite bande d'eau.
