Les musées du Capitole sont un ensemble de musées d'art et d'archéologie situés sur la place du Capitole . Ils constituent le principal musée civique municipal de Rome, faisant partie du Sistema Musei di Roma Capitale , avec une surface d'exposition de 12 977 m2.
Fondés en 1471 et ouverts au public en 1734 sous le pape Clément XII, ils sont considérés comme le premier musée au monde, conçu comme un lieu où l'art pourrait être apprécié par tous et pas seulement par les propriétaires d'œuvres. On parle de « musées », au pluriel, car à la collection originale de sculptures antiques a été ajoutée par le pape Benoît XIV, au XVIIIe siècle, la pinacothèque capitoline, constituée d'œuvres illustrant principalement des sujets romains.
