La banque est née le 1er août 1992 de la fusion de la Volksbank Brixen, fondée en 1889, et de la Volksbank Bozen, fondée en 1902. En 1995, elle a acquis la Volksbank Meran, fondée en 1886. En octobre 2014, les conseils d'administration de la Südtiroler Volksbank et de la Banca Popolare di Marostica ont convenu d'un projet de fusion, approuvé par les membres des deux banques en février 2015 et entré en vigueur le 1er avril 2015.
