Forteresse de Franzensfeste

La forteresse de Franzensfeste près de la ville de Fortezza dans l'actuel Tyrol du Sud est construite entre 1833 et 1838 sous l'empereur Ferdinand Ier. Elle doit son nom à François Ier qui est au pouvoir au moment de la planification de sa construction. Elle contrôle l'important axe transalpin du col du Brenner dans la vallée du Wipptal. Elle est considérée comme le seul exemple de l'art de la fortification néo-prussienne sur le sol austro-hongrois.
