Pour sa beauté, elle est un lieu de villégiature dès l'époque romaine. L'île possède de nombreux centres intérêts comme la Marina Piccola, le belvédère de Tragara, la grotte bleue , la Villa San Michele, la Villa Malaparte ainsi que les ruines des villas impériales romaines.
