Avant la construction de ce pont, il fallait faire traverser les personnes et les marchandises. La légende raconte qu’un cavalier a tenté de traverser la rivière et a été tué. Moins romantique est probablement l’explication selon laquelle les gens devaient patauger dans l’eau avant l’existence du pont ou la traversée en bateau. Qu’avec le froid et la pluie avec des chevaux attelés, ce n’était certainement pas facile.
