La galerie Hondsbësch à Niederkorn dans la commune de Differdange était une partie de mine abandonnée qui, pendant la période de l'occupation allemande du Luxembourg, servait de cachette pour les jeunes hommes cherchant à échapper à la conscription illégale dans la Wehrmacht allemande. En raison des lourdes pertes humaines de la Wehrmacht sur le front de l'Est, la conscription a été annoncée le 30 août 1942 par le chef de l'administration civile Gustav Simon pour le territoire annexé du Luxembourg. Beaucoup de conscrits forcés ont essayé d'échapper au service militaire en se cachant chez des parents, des amis, des connaissances ainsi que chez d'autres patriotes luxembourgeois. Le plus grand refuge au Luxembourg se trouvait dans la mine Hondsbësch partiellement abandonnée à Niederkorn, où jusqu'à 122 fuyards se cachaient temporairement.
