Ospel est situé près du Parc National "de Groote Peel". Ospel est un village de la commune de Nederweert. Ospel doit son existence à l'exploitation de la tourbe. Il est né sur un sol élevé et sablonneux, qui s'avançait comme une presqu'île dans les énormes marais de Peel. La paroisse a été fondée en 1864 et le nom Ospel viendrait de Ossepeel (dialecte : Oosepieël), car la tourbe de la Peel était uniquement transportée par des bœufs.
