Le poète et propriétaire du domaine A.C.W. Staring (1767-1840). Le 'paysan' Staring avait un regard admiratif pour la nature et la manière dont il exploitait son domaine était très particulière pour son époque. Dans les environs d'Almen, il travaillait à l'amélioration du 'drainage' des terres agricoles. Son désir de modernisation n'a pas toujours été bien accueilli, comme il l'exprime dans son poème 'Le Paysan Têtu' (têtu = obstiné). Juste à l'extérieur du village, près du pont évoqué dans le poème, se trouve ce panneau avec quatre vers du poème.
