Description

De dichter en landgoed eigenaar A.C.W. Staring (1767-1840). De 'landman' Staring had oog voor de natuur en de manier waarop hij het landgoed exploiteerde was voor die tijd zeer bijzonder. In de omgeving van Almen werkte hij aan verbetering van de 'afwatering' van de landbouwgronden. Dat zijn streven naar modernisering hem niet altijd in dank werd afgenomen, verwoorde hij in zijn gedicht 'De Hoofdige Boer' (hoofdig = koppig). Net buiten het dorp staat, bij de in het gedicht bezongen brug, dit bordje met vier regels uit het gedicht.
