Der Dichter und Gutseigentümer A.C.W. Staring (1767-1840). Der 'Landmann' Staring hatte ein Auge für die Natur, und die Art und Weise, wie er das Gut bewirtschaftete, war zu seiner Zeit sehr außergewöhnlich. In der Umgebung von Almen arbeitete er an der Verbesserung der 'Entwässerung' der landwirtschaftlichen Flächen. Dass sein Streben nach Modernisierung nicht immer mit Dank angenommen wurde, fasste er in seinem Gedicht 'Der Sture Bauer' (sture = stur) zusammen. Direkt außerhalb des Dorfes steht, bei der im Gedicht besungenen Brücke, dieses Schild mit vier Zeilen aus dem Gedicht.
